Even though you may provide us with information regarding your case, claim or legal matter, we are under no obligation to assist you in finding counsel until we have both responded to your request and specifically agreed to do so. If we have not responded within 48 hours of your providing us with a description of your case via this website, without any notice to this effect, you understand that we have declined your request for such assistance. 3. THE GOOD COUNSEL NETWORK (”GCN”) IS NOT YOUR ATTORNEY and nothing that may be communicated to you by GCN is to be understood as legal advice. If we agree to do so, we will refer you to an attorney or law firm we deem well qualified to provide you with legal advice or representation (hereinafter, the “Attorney”). Other than as a source of such referrals, GCN is completely unaffiliated with the Attorney. Except as provided in Paragraphs 6 and 7 below, our performance under these Terms and Conditions is complete in all respects once we have given you the Attorney’s contact information. 4. Regardless of the circumstances, including but not limited to (a) the amount of time we spend in referring you to the Attorney and (b) whether we or the Attorney had reason to know of the potential expiration of your claim, neither GCN nor the Attorney shall be liable in damages if your claim becomes unenforceable under the applicable statute of limitations before you retain counsel. 6. You understand that if you enter into a written agreement providing for your representation by the Attorney, under that agreement, the Attorney will pay GCN a referral fee equal to 20 percent of your legal fees; provided that if your claim constitutes a tort (commonly known as “personal injury”), the Attorney will instead pay GCN a referral fee equal to 30 percent of your legal fees. Upon your making of that written agreement, GCN assumes joint financial responsibility for your representation together with the Attorney. 7. If you reasonably become dissatisfied with the Attorney’s performance, GCN will assist you in trying to resolve the issue. If we are unable to do so and you decide to discharge the Attorney prior to the conclusion of your representation, upon receipt of your notice to that effect directed as set forth in Paragraph 8 below, GCN shall make no further referrals to the Attorney. 8. If there is no one already in our Network capable of handling your case, I will find for you the lawyer that I would use, applying to the endeavor my 22 years of experience working with and against lawyers.

And you have this further assurance:

When I make a referral, the Illinois Supreme Court’s rules make me responsible for the quality of your representation right along with the attorney receiving your case. Therefore, not only will I help in addressing any problem you encounter, whether it be inattention to your case, failing to return phone calls, or whatever; if ever you end up having to fire one of our lawyers,

then so do I.

An attorney can get quite a bit of business through the Network, so the loss of all future GCN referrals can hurt a bit more than the loss of just one dissatisfied client.
